How about a nice pic, with no particular back-story?
This would be that photo, as promised.
The 3rd, of three. Sorry, there just wasn't the room I thought there would be
A three-fer, in the hot sun?
All the of these photos popped up about the same time, with what looks like all the gals wearing their same outfits in each photo, but just shuffled around to the Photographers whim. I'll let the backside of each photo tell the tale.... I just don't have enough time today to do otherwise.... Seriously, I have to be in bed in an hour.
Uncle Jed, a few years before his casting in "The Wizard of Oz"
Yeah, I know it's Buddy Ebsen (born Christian Ludolf Ebsen, April 02, 1908) but what I don't know for sure is if this is from "Broadway Melody of 1936" or "Born to Dance" or "Broadway Melody of 1938".... it seems Barnaby, err, Buddy and Bonnie (Nana) were in all three.
In any event, it's a nice pic of hoofer Buddy Ebsen a few years before he nearly died while doing testing for the silver makeup application as the Tin Woodsman in the Judy Garland film, The Wizard of Oz. I make that distinction as there was a silent version of the film as well.
But we all knew that already.

Happy 107th, Nana, I'm actually a few hours early this time. I should have led with this one
So this great photo popped up a few months back, and if the script at the bottom can be believed (and I believe it) it's from the Eddie Cantor film "Kid Millions".
I uploaded this on my personal Facebook page in honor of her birthday, and a few pals think it might be actor George Murphy, who was in the film as well.
You be the judge on that one.

Happy 105th Nana, now please take that El Ropo cigar out of your mouth!! Just kidding.... there is rent to pay, right?
With 10 minutes to go, central time, I've just made it with this birthday post. Don't I usually promise about this time of year that I will upload more photos, with a story, or a back-story?
Well, no great story here except that this popped up, and actually had her name on the back, which happens infrequently, and why not... she was a small actress, in big movies? Hollywood needed and still needs folks like this. I was going to entitle this post something like "Bonnie Bannon, promoting fine tobacco" but I decided against it. :)
On an interesting (to me anyway?) side note, I thought the gentleman's surname on the back of the photo sounded familiar? If you haven't figured out the same thing yet, he is indeed, Joan Crawford's brother. I don't think he had quite the good run in Hollywood, as did his sister?
I wonder if they talked about his sister? Please, no wire hanger jokes... this is a classy blog, after all. ;)
But then, that's Hollywood, right?

Happy 104th, Nana!! I know it's late, but I did not forget.
Leading off a little differently than I have, since I started this Blog in my late grandmother's name, I thought I would go with some photos of how she looked in the last decade of her life. This is about how she looked when I re-connected with her in January, 1981. Bonnie is my paternal grandmother, and as my parents divorced when I was little, well, you get it. I dug around in some boxes, and came up with these. Considering that she came from hard-working, honest and honorable middle California rancher/farmers, she exuded an almost regal air. She is probably in her early 70's in both of these candid, non-professional photos. To this day (if I can continue to be honest?) I wish I had asked her more about her work in "The Picture Business" as she called it. If I've any advice to anyone reading this, don't put things like that off until tomorrow.

And of course, the back side, with a back-story, and everyone gets a credit. :) |
